Best Breed Of Dogs For Apartments

Best Breed Of Dog For Apartments

While it is possible to argue that all dogs are the best dogs, there is a perfect dog for you out there. You might be considering a four-legged companion if you reside in a pet-friendly apartment neighborhood, especially if you work from home.

First and foremost, do your homework. Even if your apartment allows pets, you should study your contract to learn more about the pet policy. Breed limitations, weight limits, a limit on the number of pets you can keep, and additional costs for pets may all be found (including a pet deposit and pet rent). Before you start looking at pets, make sure you've done your homework. It's also important to keep in mind that getting a dog is a long-term commitment. Do not get a dog if you are not prepared to care for another living being for the next 10-18 (or more) years.

What would make a suitable apartment dog for you now that you know your parameters? It all depends on you, your lifestyle, and how you want to clean. Do you want a pet who will accompany you on your daily three-mile jog or one who will lounge on the couch with you all day? Do you want a dog who barks when someone approaches your door, or do you prefer a dog that is quieter? Are you bothered by dog hair on your furniture? Are you allergic to something? Let's see if we can find the best dog for you anywhere on this list.

DOG BREEDS THAT ARE FRIENDLY

Dogs who are friendly and outgoing are great for apartment living. Dogs who are laid-back get along better with youngsters and other pets. While many large, friendly breeds exist (such as Bernese mountain dogs, great Danes, golden retrievers, and Irish setters), the breeds listed below are small to medium in size, making them more likely to fit within the size requirements of many pet-friendly apartment developments.

Pugs

There is no such thing as a stranger to a pug; there are only ear-scratchers they haven't met yet. They are both friendly and amusing. They get along well with children and other animals because they are so non-aggressive. Pugs are known for being gentle and sweet-natured. They're also known for being clinging, earning them the moniker "little shadow." The pug may not be ideal for you if you don't want a constant companion.

Beagles

Charlie Brown had a Snoopy as a pet! If that wasn't enough, beagles, or Snoopies, are wonderful tiny dogs. They are affectionate, playful, and prone to mischief. Beagles are terrific with kids and make great friends, but they suffer from separation anxiety and can get into mischief if left alone.

Petit Basset Griffon Vendéens

The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, sometimes known as the "happy breed" and shortened as PBGVs, is a pleasant, active dog with a wagging tail. They enjoy howling and will “sing” along with you or a tune they enjoy. Because they have a strong hunting instinct, keeping your PBGV on a leash when out for walks or out in an open area is a smart idea.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

There's a reason the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is such a popular tiny dog: it's affectionate, sweet, kid-friendly, and friendly toward strangers and other dogs. They are also intelligent and playful, making them an excellent choice for a friendly dog.

Boston Terriers

The AKC does not recognize Boston terriers as members of the terrier category. Instead, they are classified as "non-sporting." Their elegant black-and-white coat, which resembles a tuxedo, earned them the moniker "America's Gentleman." Boston terriers are little, amiable canines with a good sense of humor. With wide, round eyes and sharp ears, this dog is durable, portable, and appealing.

DOG BREEDS THAT ARE QUIET

Every dog barks. It's how they communicate, and we admire that. If you're worried about your neighbors being bothered by a barking dog, there are some breeds that bark less than others. Here are several examples:

Pugs

Pugs rarely bark unless they are unhappy or extremely hungry (if you aren't familiar with pugs, they are always hungry).

Basenjis

Although basenjis are known as the "barkless dog," this does not imply that they are fully silent. If the mood strikes them, they can yodel and howl. However, basenjis are often regarded as one of the quietest dog breeds.

French Bulldogs

The demeanor of these bat-eared beauties is comparable to that of a pug. It simply takes too much effort to bark at things. If you have children, Frenchies are an excellent choice because they are loyal, intelligent, and robust.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are affectionate and obedient dogs. They're usually peaceful canines who develop a strong bond with their owners. If they are left alone for an extended period of time, they will become distressed (more than a couple of hours). If you live in a busy location, bear in mind that they may automatically chase moving objects (such as cars), therefore keep your cavalier on a leash when walking.

Bolognes

Despite the fact that they share a name with a sauce, the Bolognese is anything but saucy. This beautiful little dog has a calm demeanor and is not prone to barking. Bolognese dogs are recognized for being exceptionally intelligent and cunning. If left alone all day, this lap dog will become depressed. However, if you're searching for a nice, intelligent dog who excels at agility training, this is the dog for you.

Breeds Of Lazy Dogs

A sluggish dog breed may be your ideal partner if your concept of exercise is precisely that — an idea you have from time to time. A brief walk followed by a long afternoon siesta on the couch will satisfy the dogs listed below.

English Bulldogs

The image of an English bulldog that comes to mind when you think of "lazy dog" is likely to come to mind. English bulldogs are short and stocky, weighing around 50 pounds on average. Although their little legs aren't good for long walks and they often have trouble breathing, try to take your bulldog for a short walk every day. This dog is most content curled up next to you when you binge-watch reality shows.

Basset Hounds

The basset hound isn't the best jogging companion because of its large bulk and little legs, not to mention ears that almost touch the ground. Despite their preference for napping, basset hounds were bred to hunt. When you're out strolling, keep them leashed since if they pick on a scent, they'll likely pursue it. They may have little legs, but when on the prowl, they can get away from you swiftly.

French Bulldogs

Barking and walking take effort, and the Frenchie might not be able to accomplish either. While your French bulldog may resist your efforts, it's a good idea to take him out for walks on a regular basis because they have a tendency to gain weight quickly.

Pugs

They are pleasant, peaceful, and sluggish. What isn't there to like about a pug? Because this breed enjoys eating and napping, make an effort to get your pug to exercise every day. A pug's excessive weight growth might lead to health and breathing problems.

Japanese Chins

The Japanese Chin is a quiet, noble small dog with a long history as a lap dog. While not as lazy as the dogs above, it is a peaceful, noble little dog with a long history as a lap dog. Because of their elegant leaps and climbs, Japanese Chins are often referred to as "cat-like." Japanese chins are intellectual and active, yet they don't require a lot of physical activity. These dogs have a good combination of playfulness and calmness.

DOG BREEDS THAT ARE ACTIVE

You'll probably prefer a dog that's a little more energetic if you want to go running or hiking with you, or if you just want to go to the park and throw a Frisbee around. These are some fantastic, high-energy canines.

Jack Russell Terriers

A Jack Russell terrier is a small, compact, and energetic breed of dog. The Jack Russell is a bold and intelligent dog that was developed in England for fox hunting. This breed can be a handful (read: rambunctious), so do your research before getting a Jack Russell. Jack Russells are nice and loyal small dogs if you have the stamina to keep up with them.

Miniature Pinschers

The “King of Toys,” according to the AKC, is the “min pin.” They are not (contrary to popular perception) miniature Doberman Pinschers, yet they are full of personality and spirit. The miniature pinscher isn't a little form of any breed. This charming little heartbreaker is hundreds of years old, even older than the Doberman Pinscher. Min pins are exceptionally intelligent and courageous, with a high-stepping pace and a large personality. Min pins are devoted, funny, and very energetic.

Schipperkes

The endearing schipperke has a lot of personality and vigor. So much so that this tiny canine needs at least a half-hour of daily activity. The schipperke, which weighs around 16 pounds and is highly intelligent, will require a variety of activities. They have a high hunting drive since they were bred to hunt vermin aboard barges (schipperke means "small captain" in Flemish).

Pembroke Welch Corgi

The Pembroke Welsh corgi, as a herding dog, will require a lot of exercise, so don't be fooled by those little legs. This dog is intelligent, athletic, and adorably adorable. The Pembroke Welsh corgi is “one of the world's most popular herding breeds,” according to the American Kennel Club.

Portuguese Water Dog

The Portuguese water dog is a medium-sized dog that weighs around 60 pounds when fully grown. This dog loves to swim if your apartment community allows medium-sized dogs and you live near a body of water. They were developed to assist fisherman and could be taught to herd fish into nets. This dog is extremely bright and requires daily exercise. You might desire a Portuguese water dog if your travels include hiking and swimming.

DOG BREEDS THAT ARE INDEPENDENT

If you work outside the home but still want a dog, there are some breeds that will tolerate your absence better than others. However, all dogs crave your attention, so try to get home during the lunch hour or hire a dog walker to walk them during the day.

Basset Hounds

A basset hound will most likely sleep till you arrive home because they are both lethargic and independent.

Chihuahua

The little yet powerful Chihuahua isn't bothered if you leave during the day. The Chihuahua is the smallest dog breed, weighing approximately five pounds on average, but they have big personalities. They're also self-sufficient and bright. Chihuahuas do better in pairs, so having two is a good idea. While you're at work, they'll keep each other company, lessening the likelihood that your Chihuahua may bark out of boredom. When contemplating a Chihuahua for your apartment, keep in mind that they bark at everything. They can also be a bit obnoxious.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi

Welsh corgis from Cardigan were bred to herd cattle. They were able to avoid cow kicks due to their diminutive stature. They are intelligent, active, and self-sufficient. While they won't mind if you're gone during the day, because they're so energetic, you might want to hire someone to walk them for you. They are noted for their quickness and agility and enjoy being outside. Cardigans enjoy barking. Quite a bit. If you're thinking about getting a cardigan, keep in mind that they're notorious for being loud dogs who bark at everything.

Biewer Terriers

If you're looking for a small dog, the Biewer terrier (pronounced "beaver") is a smart little dog that weighs between four and eight pounds. They are amiable and independent, and they don't bark much. Biewer terriers are relatively new to the scene, having been bred from Yorkshire terriers in the 1970s and 1980s. They won't mind if you go to work, but you shouldn't leave your Biewer terrier alone for long periods of time. They may start digging or gnawing if they don't get enough activity.

Lhasa Apso

Lhasa apsos were originally bred to serve as royal guards. They are tough, self-reliant, and fearless. They are also a little bit obstinate. Because Lhasa apsos don't bark much, they make excellent apartment pets. They are little dogs, weighing roughly at around 18 pounds, yet they are loyal and protective. They're also quite energetic, so while they may be left alone for long periods of time, you'll want to make sure they receive enough exercise.

HYPOALLERGENIC DOG BREEDS

Although there is no such thing as a 100% hypoallergenic dog, there are some breeds that are more tolerable than others. If you have allergies but still want a dog, these breeds have lower dander levels (what most people are allergic to). To help remove allergens from your apartment, vacuum frequently, groom your pet frequently, and wash your pet's bed on a regular basis.

American Hairless Terrier

The American hairless terrier, the country's only native hairless breed, is a descendent of the rat terrier and originated from Louisiana. You won't have to worry about your allergies with this small, proud, and mighty dog. This dog breed is not adapted to cold climates due to its lack of a coat (consider putting yours in a sweater when the temperature dips). They are intelligent, easily trained, and extremely active.

Bichon Frise

The bichon frise, despite its marshmallow-like appearance, is a non-shedding dog that is ideal for allergy sufferers. These dogs are known for their large personalities and are sometimes regarded as hilarious. The bichon is a fantastic choice for families with children since they are attentive, interested, and kind. Because they don't shed but have such a thick, luscious hair, they'll need to go to the groomer on a frequent basis or their fur may mat.

Chinese Crested

The Chinese crested is a magnificent breed that is frequently (and wrongly) included in "ugliest dog" lists. They are sweet-natured, very clever, kid-friendly, and easy to train, in addition to being hypoallergenic. And they look beautiful in sweaters on top of it all! Warmer climates suit this dog better. (And no, they don't require sunscreen

Poodle

There's a lot to like about the stylish poodle, which is undeniably one of the most intellectual dog breeds. They are kind, loyal canines who get along well with children. They are non-shedding and were bred as water retrievers (their name means splash in the water). The poodle is available in three different sizes! There are three sizes: small, medium, and giant. Toy, tiny, and standard, to be precise. Do not let your poodle to become bored! While this dog is known for his fancy haircut, he is incredibly bright and requires activities to keep him occupied. Otherwise, you may find him trashing stuff to keep himself occupied. That beautiful haircut served a purpose: it stopped their coat from getting hooked on items in the water while also keeping important organs and joints warm.

Affenpinscher

The affenpinscher, sometimes known as the "little comic," is a curious, fun-loving tiny dog that is hypoallergenic but sheds. Affenpinschers are clever dogs who get along well with children.

Shih Tzu

Shih tzus are a low-shedding dog breed that is also considered hypoallergenic. They are a lovely dog that also tends to be a little lethargic. They are lap dogs in every aspect, and all they want to do is curl up in your lap and look adorable while you watch TV. The shih tzu is a fantastic dog to have if you want a lovely, lazy, hypoallergenic puppy.
